Abstract submission for 2010 is not yet open. SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS The Australian Society for Psychological Research in Diabetes (ASPRID) invites you to submit an abstract for the 2009 Annual Scientific Conference. The Conference will address all areas of psychological research in diabetes and self-management. Abstracts will be reviewed by members of the ASPRID Executive Committee. Individuals with accepted abstracts will be advised of their success by Monday 20th July and will be invited to present an oral presentation or poster. Abstracts of invited speakers will be published in the ASPRID Final Program to be distributed to all Conference delegates. Please note, the Conference Organisers regret that they cannot waive registration fees or pay travel expenses for presenters with accepted abstracts. MEANS OF SUBMISSION - ONLINE In 2010 ASN is introducing their new online system. The first step is to record your personal details on your own ‘dashboard’. If you have already completed it for your registration or another ASN event, you will not have to repeat this, just login to your ‘dashboard’. As you complete any section of the ‘dashboard’, you will receive a confirmation email. You can use your email and password to access your abstract submission at any time, and can edit it and observe its selection status from your dashboard.
The presenting author must be the person submitting the abstract and they must do this from their own ‘dashboard’.
You can cut and paste your abstract in several simple steps. The benefits of this system are many but include: i. Allowing you to preview your abstract and make modifications to your satisfaction. ii. Ensuring you know your lodgement is completed as you will receive an immediate email confirmation iii. Ensuring accurate indexing of all authors in the abstract book iv. Ensuring consistent presentation of all abstracts in the proceedings (overarching formatting is imposed).
Before You Start * Are you using one of the following browsers INTERNET EXPLORER (ver 5.5 or newer) NETSCAPE (ver 7.4 or newer) or MOZILLA (ver 1.3 or newer) If not the screen will tell you if it detects you are using the wrong software and you would be better to change to a computer with one of them installed.
* Have you got your abstract open and running on your own computer? – you need to be able to cut and paste it onto the web. (Note that keypad short cuts do not work with Mozilla, you need to use the menu, edit, paste command to paste in text to your submission).
* Is your abstract text less than 300 words – it will not allow you to paste larger submissions. The word count does NOT include your title, authoring or cited references
* Have you got a table in your abstract? If you have, it may copy and paste straight into the submission. This is likely if you have used the Times New Roman font and it is not physically large (try and keep it less than 12 cm wide on an A4 sheet). Otherwise you should save a copy of your table as an image file on your own computer first and upload that. (It should be a .tif .gif .png or .jpg file)
WHEN YOU'VE FINISHED THE SUBMISSION
As long as you haven't incorrectly filled your own email address, you will get an immediate confirmation which includes a .pdf copy of your submission for your records. On the last screen of the lodgement page
YES - YOU CAN MAKE CHANGES AFTER YOU HAVE SUBMITTED!! Your confirmation email will have instructions on how to go back and edit your work or make small changes. This will remain open and possible until the program committee allocates your work to the program.
ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION Notification of programming decisions will come from the secretariat shortly after the expiry of deadlines and the working program will be posted to the web site. It will also appear on your own ‘dashboard’. The notification will include specific presentation instructions but in the interim, those preparing posters should note the maximum size allowed is 100cm wide by 120cm deep. Velcro will be available to fix the poster to the boards. Computer data projection is the preferred presentation method for orals.
WEB PUBLISHING A couple of weeks before the meeting, the final program will be published to this web page along with hyperlinks to the abstracts.
ORAL OR POSTER If your abstract is accepted for oral presentation, the preferred means of presenting your work is in Microsoft Powerpoint. The speaker preparation room will be continuously staffed during the Conference so you can check your presentation beforehand. Ideally you should bring your presentation to the Conference on a CD or USB memory stick. Delegates will not be able to use their own laptops during the presentation.
For those submitting a poster, the maximum size is 1.0 metre wide x 1.2 metres high. You can place your poster in its assigned position between 7:30 and 8:30 am on the morning of the Conference (Monday 24th August) when checking in at the registration desk. Posters will be displayed in the same function space as those displayed for the related events, ADS-ADEA and ESA-SRB. ASPRID posters will be distinguished with appropriate signage. ACCEPTANCE NOTIFICATION Notification of programming decisions will come from the secretariat shortly after the expiry of deadlines. The working program will be posted on the web site.
